Poirel wins research award

The Department of Computer Science selected Chris Poirel as the recipient of the "Outstanding Research by a PhD Student award" for 2013-2014. Chris completed his Ph.D. thesis under the guidance of T. M. Murali in October 2013. In his thesis, Chris developed novel graph algorithms to connect top-down and bottom-up approaches in systems biology. He received the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship in 2010 and a Cunningham Fellow in 2013. He was a co-author on a paper that won the Best Paper Award at the 2010 ACM Conference on Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, and Biomedicine. The Graduate School selected him as the student speaker at the Fall 2013 Graduate Student Commencement ceremonies. Chris is currently a Senior Data Scientist at RedOwl Analytics.
