Jeff is originally from Utah. He received his Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics from Brigham Young University in 2015.
His research interests lie in the rapidly growing field of bioinformatics. He is still open to many ideas for his PhD research. One research area he has experience and interest in deals with next-generation sequencing data from pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer patients. A few of the questions he has tried to answer with the pancreas cancer dataset are: If no common gene mutations are found driving the development of the cancer in our cohort, are there common proteins or pathways being mutated leading to cancer, and can we find those mutated protein pathways using only the exome data?
His wife and baby are loving Blacksburg with him. They really enjoy hiking, biking, dirtbiking, and snowboarding together. OK, those last two were before the baby ;).
