CTE student Rebekah Less receives DOD SMART Fellowship

Rebekah Less a first-year Ph.D. student in the Virginia Tech — Wake Forest University School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences, has been awarded a Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) graduate fellowship from the Department of Defense.

Sophia Orbach receives the "Outstanding Interdisciplinary Doctoral Student" award from the Virginia Tech Graduate School. The goal of her research is to use a 3D multicellular liver culture and transcriptomic analysis (RNA-seq) to develop a model for predicting hepatotoxicity (chemical-driven liver damage) in humans. She is co-advised by Prof. Padma Rajagopalan in Chemical Engineering and Prof. Marion Ehrich in the Department of Biomedical Sciences & Pathobiology in the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.
